Given below are some of the Search Engine Friendly website design method NETable applies while designing websites:
Design website using DIV tags only
2 to 3 yrs ago most websites were done using tables. Today all successful websites and businesses relying more on the Internet for generating sales leads are usually done using DIV tags. This is because they know the importance and benefits of using DIV tags. In short DIV produces cleaner code and helps search engine crawlers to easily find and reach the main content. Using DIV tags also enables website designers the flexibility to place main content on top on the code while to website viewer the content could be at the bottom. It also loads faster compared to table based websites as file size are smaller.
Removing javascript from header
Many website today have a lot of long javascripts written on the content pages making search engine crawlers difficult to reach the actual content. Removing javascripts from the page and placing javascript in a separate file will help the actual content to be pushed up and enable search engine crawlers to easily index the content.
Dynamic title, description, keywords
Having seperate title, description and keywords from one page to the other, helps search engine crawlers index more pages and differentiate one page from the other. Title, description and keywords should be written for each products or page individually with relevance to the actual content on the body.
If you wish to know if your website have different title tags and wish to know how many pages are indexed by Google then try typing site:www.yourdomain.com on search engine field.
Search Engine Friendly website address
Dynamic or database driven websites have query strings like www.yourdomain.com?id=3&content=899. This address is difficult to crawl and does not have much meaning. If you are selling “Paper Gift Bags” then having website address like www.yourdomain.com/products/paper-gifts-bags is more meaningful and better for search engines. If your website is database driven then mod url rewrite should be enabled for your domain. By default Mod Url rewrite is supported by apache web server and usually this is done by modifying .htaccess file under web root directory. If your website is running on IIS server then hosting provider may need to install ISAPI Helicon software for IIS to enable mod rewrite.
Optimising your website for image search
People have started using search engines for finding images and optimising your website for image search will provide added value in terms of search engines and will result in increase of visitors to your website. When saving product image, for eg. Paper Gift Bags, if image is saved as “90900hghjaw.jpg” this image name is not very meaningful. Instead image should be saved as paper-gift-bags.jpg, with this implementation there is more chance of your image being loaded when someone searches for “Paper Gift Bags” for image search. To enable your website for google image search then you should create google webmaster tools account and enable your website for image search.
Dynamic or Static xml sitemap
Sitemap tells google and other search engines how many pages you have on your website, when the page was uploaded and frequency of updates of the page. Creating a dynamic/static sitemap will help other search engines including google to keep their index database fresh and it is easier for their crawler to follow links as all links are in one xml format file. You can submit your website sitemap from google webmaster login.
Implement google analytics
Implementing google analytics is free and provides website owners with detailed statistics of visitor information like what keywords did the user search, from which region and country did they come from, daily visitors and many more. Google analytics provides comprehensive data than web statistics provided by hosting agencies.
